Satellites witness lowest Arctic ice coverage in history

It is mind boggling to sit and watch man’s inhumanity to man flourish or even (man’s war on nature) while those sitting right next to me suffer from cognitive dissonance. Where one might say, “boy, why did we attack Iraq?” and our neighbor would respond with, “You love terrorism!”

One might question the actions of our government while our neighbor calls us “Anti-Patriotic.” Again, we might say, “Our human activity is resulting in an a maximal release of greenhouse gases such as CO2 and CH4, known greenhouse gases, which have a direct effect on our environment causing not only an increase in global ambient temperature as well as the resulting influx of IR radiation and melting of global permafrost and polar icecaps and an increase in melanoma at unprecedented levels!”

But our staunch neighbors are resilient in their responses, ever ready as usual, “You’re a communist hippy! You hate business don’t you? You want to see our country fail, you… you.. terrorist you!” The republican/Bush Co./Neocon/Conservative agenda is as it always has been over the past 50 years… “I got mine, sucks to be you!”

Ignorance marches on.

From the European Space Agency Sept. 14, 2007
"Envisat ASAR mosaic of the Arctic Ocean for early September 2007, clearly showing the most direct route of the Northwest Pssage open (orange line) and the Northeast passage only partially blocked (blue line). The dark gray colour represents the ice-free areas, while green represents areas with sea ice."

This animated gif below highlights the changes in sea ice. The ice-free areas appear as dark gray and the sea ice areas as light gray.

Image below.. The McClure Strait is the most direct route of the Northwest Passage and has been fully open since early August 2007.

Republicans/Bush Co./Neocons/Conservatives of all walks of life claim that volcanoes emit more CO2 than we could in a life time. This is utterly false. It is a lie that has been spoon fed to them and they believe it with all their heart. It is a lie when in fact, the exact opposite is true. We have put out more CO2 each year than any volcano does in 10 years.

We all have a choice. What will yours be? To shove your head in the sand? To listen to the propaganda? Or could possibly be somewhere akin to actually getting up, turning off American Idol and doing some research on your own to find out what the real truth is?

Better hurry. I hear Brittany just shaved her head again. Maybe you can catch it on the toob if you’re not too late.

You really love that phrase cognitive dissonance. What's great is there are a dozen ways to describe that very phenomenon with normal nonclinical language.

By the way. Your example isn't cognitive dissonance. You can disagree with the cause for invasion that started the war and still support the continuance of the mission as the best course of action.

Its a complex issue which creates complex emotions. Logical framework and facts would still be consistent. This is not cognitive dissonance. You should reread your intro-psychology text.

Yes, I really do love it. It… delivers the fecal smell of your party like no other word can. It delivers! The aroma, the nose, the depiction of creative blindness that your party expertly performs literally knows no rival.

Nothing comes close to a republican clown with their head shoved in the ground to block off all reason, all fact, all normal discourse. The mind numbing practices of your party is matched only by it’s capacity for clever yet under handed corruption.. (as opposed to over hand, but who’s counting?!)

Yes there is… see above for examples.

Cognitive Dissonance: … ahem…. cough, cough…. A psychological phenomenon that occurs when there is a discrepancy between what a person believes and values, and persuasive information that calls these beliefs and values into question. The discrepancy causes psychological discomfort, and the mind adjusts to reduce the discrepancy by adhering closer to these same beliefs. In ethics, cognitive dissonance is important in its ability to alter values.

In other words, your team has a belief, oh… let’s say… “We’re at war because Iraq has WMDs and is an immanent threat to the U.S. and we shouldn’t wait for the mushroom cloud!” Does this sound familiar?? I hope so. If not, go see 2003 State of the Union. And then little obnoxious facts and reality come into play.. pssst… there are no WMDs. Uh Oh… now you guys have to change battle plan… I prefer to call it flip flopping.

So, what’s the current reason why we’re there in Iraq Dare!pdx? Is WMDs? Is it to stop an attack or squelch an “Immanent Threat?” Are we there to bring democracy? ( I would like to think that we should start here first!) Or are we there to… help the people of Iraq? What? What’s the reason? Why have close to 4,000 U.S. soldiers and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians been killed as a result of our act of aggression?

Oh wait, I remember one of your favorite arguments… “Saddam bad. He kill people!” Sound familiar?? Yes, Saddam was bad, now Saddam dead. What we do there now? Your team will do everything possible to avoid reality.

That’s called Cognitive Dissonance.

You attempt to reason your way out of it buddy. But your team is a pack of head-in-the-sand-Devils and you don’t want to see the writing on the wall. You viciously cling to the belief that since Saddam was a murderer that this justifies an act of war.

It doesn’t.

And your republican friends are jumping ship and turning on Nero as fast as they can, distancing themselves before things get any worse.

Now why is that? hmmmmmm

So what your saying is.

That when the U.S. along with all our NATO allies invaded Iraq and did not find WMDs....... We should have packed up and just left. Just like that.

To do otherwise would be cognitive dissonance. Is that what you now assert? That doesn't make sense and is not actually what cognitive dissonance is.

The issue with Iraq across both sides of the isle is that no one wants to be there but all other options are worse and riskier than staying the course.

Again. Your stance is divorced from reality and is a spoon fed rhetorical line to mobilize and minipulate the liberal base of your party.

I have never taken a stance on Iraq that you've ever seen. You assume one on me. All I've done is point to your poor thinking and insulting and responded with facts your overlooking or unrealistic assumptions.

Shit, you don't even know what a neocon is (though its your favorite word).

By the way your example isn't cognitive dissonance as you are mis-applying the term. No one denies or still argues for WMD's but many do wonder where they went from storage after the 1991 conflict. There is also a great deal of proof that there were active weapons programs which was the reason for invasion (you probably weren't involved enough or even literate enough to remember Collin Powel presenting the case for invasion to the UN).

Up until recently your side agreed just with the UN in charge instead of us. As John Kerry campaigned on. He would have eventually invaded Iraq but only after Hanz Blixt had all the time he needed and the UN was the leader.

This isn't the first time I've pointed out this reality of recent history to you. You overlook it becuase it cause conflict with your cognitive perspective (i.e. you are experience cognitive dissonance).
